Settings and Connection to Minecraft Java Game Server on Windows Server 2022 Datacenter

For the VM to work, you need to open 25565 TCP and UDP ports in the Security group in AWS Firefall.

Connecting to the Server

  1. To connect to the Server, you should generate a “Private Key” in advance. This can be done using Guidance on usage. To connect to the virtual machine, click the Remote desktop file from step 10 of the Guidance on usage
  1. In the window that appears, enter the password from step 12 of the Guidance on usage and click OK.
  1. Check the box and click Yes.

Running the server and starting the game

  1. To start (1) or stop (2) the server you should click on the corresponding shortcut on the desktop.
  1. Run your client to play the Minecraft Java Edition.
  1. Click “Multiplayer” in the main menu.
  1. Click “Add Server”.
  1. In the window, in the “Server Name” field name the server as you like.

In the “Server Address” field enter the IP address of the VM and click “Done”

  1. In the server list, select the previously added server and click “Join Server”

Updating the server and Java

  1. To update the Minecraft server and its components you should stop the server and run with PowerShell the update_minecraft&java shortcut
  1. Confirm execution policy (if required)
  1. After creating a server backup, confirm to continue the update
  1. Wait for the server update to complete and confirm to continue
  1. Wait for the Java update to complete and confirm to finish

Then you can start your server and continue to play!
