Creating and Using a Key Pair to Connect to a VM

After subscribing to the VM and selecting the required specifications, you need to create a Key Pair file to use it later for connecting to the VM.

  1. Click the Create new key pair button.
  1. A key creation window will open.
  1. Enter the name of the key (1), select the .pem format (2), and click the Create key pair button (3).
  1. The file will be automatically saved to your computer. It is important to save it in a folder where you won’t lose it. The key will also appear in the list on the Keys page in EC2 after refreshing.
  1. Next, return to the page where you selected the VM settings and choose your key from the list.
  1. Then, press the Launch Instance button.
  1. To access the VM, click Instances in the window that opens.
  1. When the page with the created VM opens, you can change its name.

Please note: Before proceeding to the next step, you should wait until the machine is fully powered on. Otherwise, you will not be able to retrieve the password needed to connect.

  1. To connect to the VM, right-click on the line with the VM and click Connect.
  1. When the Connect to instance window opens, go to the PDP Client tab,  and click Download remote desktop file

You can use this file along with the password from step 12.

  1. Next, retrieve the password. Click Get Password, select the .pem file created in step 3, and click Decrypt Password. you need to get the password. 
  1. You will then obtain the Username (1) and Password (2) for this VM.
