Guidance on usage: Airsonic Advanced Server on Linux 7.9 Minimal

Configuration and connection Airsonic Advanced Server on Linux 7.9 Minimal

  1. Run the VM through Azure Portal. To customize the Airsonic Server, first, you need to know the server IP address. You can find it in the personal account of Azure. You need to select the virtual machine from the list. By clicking the item “Overview”, your IP is displayed in the line of “Public IP Address”.
  1. To work, you should open an 8080 TCP port in the network properties in the Azure firewall.
  1. To add audio to the library, you need to upload music to the server. Connect to a VM.
    1. With OpenSSH

In the Windows 10 operating system (starting with version 1809), an OpenSSH client is available, with which you can connect to Linux servers via SSH. If Windows 10 is suitable and the OpenSSH client is installed, you can start connecting via SSH. To do this, launch a normal Windows command prompt and enter the command “ssh user@*vm_ip*”.

Where “user” is the username that was specified while creating the virtual machine and “*vm_ip*” is the VM IP address.

In the opened console it is necessary to enter a password that was specified while creating the virtual machine.

  1. With the PuTTy application

To do this you need the PuTTy application to connect via ssh. You can download it at the following link – Download

Run Putty, enter the VM address in the “Host” field, and click “Open” to connect.

In the opened console you will need to enter a username and password that were specified while the VM was being created (you’ll not see the password in the console while entering it).

  1. Create a folder where we will upload the music. To do this, enter the command

> cd /var

> sudo mkdir music

And a command to go to the created folder

> cd music

  1. Now you can upload audio files to this folder. Files should be grouped into folders as follows:

music/%artist_name%/%album_name%

Therefore, we will create several folders with the following command (inside the music folder):

> sudo mkdir -p artist/album

and go to this folder with the command:

> cd artist/album

To download a track via a direct link, you can use the following command (while inside the album folder)

> sudo wget -O %file_name% %link_to music%

  1. For example:
    > sudo wget -O Omen.mp3 ‘https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1kaj9cpLcgwcu0hPp6N2cUE8cIzoWM31t&export=download
  1. Now you can go to the main page. To do this, go to the following address http: //*vm_ip*:8080/airsonic. The authorization page will open. To log in as an administrator, use the username admin and the password admin.
  1. After authorization, the main page will open. First of all, it is recommended to change the password for the account. To do this, click on “Change administrator password”
  1. Check the box next to “Add credentials”, and enter the new password in the “New Password” and “Confirm Password” fields.
  1.  Now you need to scan the folder for added files. To do this, go to settings, and click the “Scan media folders now” button.
  1.  Also, permit the user admin access to the folder where we downloaded the music. To do this, go to the settings in the “Users” section.
  1.  Select the “admin” user, check the box next to the music folder, and press <Save>.
  1.  If you did everything right, then on the “Home” page your tracks should appear, which you can play directly from the browser (if the prompt is still displayed, then just click on “Don’t show this again” in the third paragraph.
